Unlike what many think, meditation is much more than just a religious practice, in fact it has many benefits for your emotional and physical health.

10. Improves your mood and lowers your stress levels

It has been shown that when you meditate at least 11 hours per month, you’ll see an increased cognitive performance, and greatly increased mood, because it increases the white matter around the anterior cingulate cortex, which controls mood, among other things, it also helps to lower levels of anxiety, anger, fatigue, and depression. 

9. Help facilitate psoriasis treatments

It was proved by a scientific analysis that people who meditate reduce their levels of stress therefor their results after phototherapy during a psoriasis treatment where much better than those who didn’t meditate.

8. Reduces your risk of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders

Meditation turns off the part of the brain with “me” thoughts, as well as mind-wandering, allowing people to be more present-centered, instead of self-centered. Meditation can help someone who might otherwise be at risk, avoid contracting the disease, or at least control their symptoms better.

Meditation can reduce cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease such as the effects of problems like angina pectoris and carotid atherosclerosis.

Meditation can improve pulmonary functions, decrease respiratory rate, decrease number of asthma attacks, and lower pulse rate, therefore less need for use of inhalers; this may be caused by the increased amount of endorphin activity, airway muscle dynamics, and better balance in the autonomic nervous system meditation provides.

Meditation reduces stress levels and helps cope with the cravings, as well as increasing the mindfulness. This can work for any addiction, be it alcohol or cigarettes.
